K-Gr 2--This Ready-to-Read Level 2 book is based on a TV series from Hasbro and Nickelodeon. The main characters, Robby and Mo, have moved out of the city to a small town for their mom's work as a park ranger. The hard adjustment becomes easier when they discover Twitch and Thrash, the first two Earth-born Transformers. Robby and Mo help Twitch and Thrash discover their unique powers of transformation and are able to sense their feelings. There are a few plot jumps that are not explained in the book, such as how the villain Mandroid finds out about Twitch and Thrash before kidnapping them, and how Robby and Mo's family have Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and the other Transformers to help save Twitch and Thrash. While the text is limited to one or two sentences per page, some of the language, including grumbles, convinces, discover, and shimmering, is advanced for an easy reader. Robby, Mo, and their parents have dark skin, and all images in the book are directly from the animated TV series. VERDICT This book will appeal most to fans of the TV show, but young readers who are Transformers fans will also enjoy it. A supplemental purchase.--Heidi Dechief
