Human Body Theater: A Non-Fiction Revue

by Maris Wicks (Author)

Human Body Theater: A Non-Fiction Revue
Reading Level: 6th − 7th Grade
Welcome to the Human Body Theater, where your master of ceremonies is going to lead you through a theatrical revue of each and every biological system of the human body! Starting out as a skeleton, the MC puts on a new layer of her costume (her body) with each act. By turns goofy and intensely informative, the Human Body Theater is always accessible and always entertaining. Maris Wicks is a biology nerd, and by the time you've read this book, you will be too! Harnessing her passion for science (and her background as a science educator for elementary and middle-school students), she has created a comics-format introduction to the human body that will make an expert of any reader -- young or old!

Maris Wicks

Maris Wicks lives in sunny Somerville, Massachusetts. She is the author behind Human Body Theater, as well as the illustrator of New York Times Bestselling Primates, with Jim Ottaviani. Wicks has also created comics for Spongebob Comics, DC and Marvel. When Maris is not drawing comics, she can be found prepping slides for her collection of vintage microscopes.

Joe Flood is a comic book author and illustrator whose work includes Cellies, Pirates of the Caribbean and Orcs: Forged for War. For the Science Comics series, he collaborated on Dinosaurs: Fossils and Feathers with MK Reed and wrote and illustrated Sharks: Nature's Perfect Hunter. He lives with his wife and daughter in New York's Hudson Valley.

Casey Zakroff is a marine ecophysiologist (he studies how animals' bodies function and interact with their environment), researching how stress impacts marine invertebrates (especially squid and other cephalopods!). He is also an avid science communicator, and, now, comics author. Growing up on the coasts of Florida and Maine, he pursued a passion for the ocean, going tidepooling and whale watching, and eventually scuba diving in reefs across the world. He has a PhD in Biological Oceanography from MIT and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), which he was working on when he wrote Science Comics: Whales, his first graphic novel.

Pat Lewis is a freelance cartoonist/illustrator who lives in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife and two cats. His artwork has appeared in magazines such as Highlights for Children and Boys' Life, as well as books by Workman Publishing, Macmillan and McGraw-Hill. Some of his favorite things in this world are: flea markets, road trips, monster movies and snack-bar nachos. Oh, and drawing funny pictures for kids and adults.
