K-Gr 2—Clear layouts and well-defined text boxes make this easy reader series clean and focused. Each book features a variety of people enjoying the great outdoors. Repetition throughout with no more than three sentences on each spread and a slow, steady introduction of new words build confidence for young readers. Those vocabulary words are placed alongside picture clues at both the beginning and the end of each book. The bright, colorful photos are inviting and feature a diverse cast. Camping shows kids and adults enjoying camping in all kinds of weather and in various climates. The only book in the set that feels slightly out of step is Gardening, as it's less of a sport than a hobby, but it's still a warm, welcoming introduction. Not super informative, but a lovely easy reader nonfiction series nonetheless. VERDICT Could be useful in filling gaps in very early nonfiction collections.
