Gr 5-7--Every page in this title is heavily illustrated with photos of art and ancient artifacts from around the world. Divided into five sections by continent (Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania), the book begins with the myths of the Greek and Roman gods of Europe. The text also shares creation myths, stories of the afterlife, the origin of traditions, and conflicts between good and evil from the various civilizations. Most of the stories fit on a single page or a spread and feature gods, goddesses, heroes, tricksters, and mythical creatures. There are sidebars that connect the stories to popular culture or contemporary traditions. Each picture is captioned with an explanation of its connection to the text. The volume contains a table of contents, a glossary, and an index. VERDICT A hefty volume that will visually stimulate its readers.
