Here, Kitty, Kitty!/Ven, Gatita, Ven! (Bilingual English/Spanish Edition)

by Pat Mora (Author) Maribel Suarez (Illustrator)

Reading Level: K − 1st Grade

Our new kitty likes to hide.
A nuestra nueva gatita le gusta esconderse.

She hides under the table,
Se esconde debajo de la mesa,

inside a flowerpot,
dentro de una maceta

and behind the curtains.
y detrás de las cortinas.

We call out to her,
La llamamos, pero . . .

but will she ever come close enough to pet?
¿se acercará lo suficiente como para acariciarla?

Here, kitty, kitty!
¡Ven, gatita, ven!

PreS-KA perfect child's-eye perspective on having a new cat. The simple bilingual text explains the daily playfulness"kitty hides behind Grandma's shoes./"La gatita se esconde detrás de los zapatos de Abuelita"." The book can be useful for English-language as well as Spanish-language learners. The brightly colored spreads are lighthearted in the depictions of the feline peering from a flowerpot on its side or dashing into a doll's crib. The mischief and the accompanying laughter or dismay displayed by the children are well rendered. The three siblings clearly enjoy their new pet. This is a good choice for bilingual storytimes or for sharing one-on-one."Linda M. Kenton, Pickleweed Public Library, San Rafael, CA" Copyright 2009 School Library Journal, LLC Used with permission.
