It's my cousin's birthday! She's turning fifteen and it's tradition to have a big party called a Quinceañera! We all wear pretty dresses (my cousin's is the prettiest!) and eat lots of yummy food and treats. We also give the birthday girl lots of presents, and there are special dances, too! This beautiful party is so much fun for everyone in the family!

A little girl is excited to attend her cousin's quinceañera celebration where she learns about the traditional customs associated with the momentous 15th birthday party, such as party favors, a special portrait of her cousin, and coordinated dances. The narrator gets to wear a beautiful dress with a pretty bow and carry a fancy purse. She briefly misplaces her purse but eventually finds it. The English edition of these early readers has Spanish sprinkled throughout the text that is highlighted in red. A glossary and pronunciation guide are included on the title page. It might be difficult for non-native Spanish readers to decode the Spanish without intervention. However, the simple narrative and short sentences are just right for emerging readers who require some support. The cheerful illustrations support the text and add to the festive feel. VERDICT Purchase these sweet transitional books for dual language classrooms and communities where there are Spanish-language readers.
