Fun; you might want to make room for this one.

PreS-Gr 1--Little Anteater loves traveling on his mama's back, but it can be lonely, just riding around and seeing the sights. He invites what becomes over a dozen fellow travelers to join him by the time a frog and family climb aboard: dormouse, mole, woodpecker, fox, snail, squirrel, hare, duck, and badger. The tower that uncomplaining Mama carries cannot last. The creatures tumble off. With charmingly anthropomorphized animals in the starring roles, the story treats readers to a fine lesson on habitats and some of their natural drawbacks; the frogs know all about damp, and the ducks' nests are crowded. Still, this shaggy dog tale is mostly concerned with the building suspense and the eventual demise of the little anteater's road trip. VERDICT Fun, lightweight, an additional purchase.--Kimberly Olson Fakih
