PreS-K--The third entry in the series finds the little girl and her cat in the big city during a snowfall right before Christmas. The holiday is never mentioned by name, but the city is decked out for the season with Santa's face on an ad atop a taxi cab and wreaths hanging in many doorways. The two go to a hat shop and a shoe shop, where they both try on the merchandise. This is the slightly amusing part of the story, as everything is oversized for the little shoppers. While Brownie tests some high heels, the cat tries on some cowboy boots. Then it's off to the cupcake shop. After a treat there, Brownie and Pearl decide they're sleepy and head for home. Both girl and cat curl up in a chair for a winter's nap. The characters are simply drawn and outlined in black; the city scenes in the background are slightly muted. But not much happens here, and the adventure is small.--Ieva Bates, Ann Arbor District Library, MI
