Celebrate the seasons with more books by Renée Kurilla:
It's Fall!
It's Winter!
PreS-Gr 1--In this spring addition to Kurilla's seasonal picture book series, readers will frolic through lively rhyming couplets, celebrating the life that emerges after the snow of winter melts away. "Slide on your rain boots--let's explore! We'll see what springtime has in store." From splashing through rain shower puddles, to hanging feeders for feathered friends, to rousing a community garden from its winter slumber, the story features children joyfully experiencing the hallmarks of spring. The season also brings holidays to celebrate: children decorate eggs for Easter, search for matzah on Passover, and craft cards for Mother's Day. Digitally rendered illustrations are whimsical and energetic, embracing a verdant green palette with moments of daffodil yellow, cherry blossom pink, and robin's egg blue. Charming critters scamper through every spread: an orange cat proudly parades in a yellow jacket, a fashionable bird wears a sunhat and pearls, and an easily overlooked worm sports a tiny baseball cap. Emphasizing the child's experience as the story's focus, illustrations depict grown-ups facing away from readers or show only their limbs, visible at page's edge, mostly out of frame. Children depicted are racially diverse and one child uses a wheelchair. The story concludes with a conversation prompt for readers, "What do you like best about spring?" End papers answer the question with playful sidewalk chalk doodles summarizing spring favorites. VERDICT Libraries will want to continue growing with Kurilla's seasonal series and this high-spirited, sweet celebration of spring.--Emily Brush
