School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 1--Two young children are preparing to have their first sleepover at their cousins' house. They pack their things and head over, where they discover all of the fun--and frightening--things that can happen during a sleepover. They watch movies, play with a puppy, have pizza, and finally go to bed telling scary stories. Eventually, the children fall asleep and then wake up to a bright morning and breakfast with their cousins. Ransom makes the story fun to listen to by using a rhyming pattern in the text: "Pizza time, then ice cream! Yes! Cherry on top. Yummy mess." These rhymes also make the book a great choice for early readers because they are easier to memorize and use to recognize words and patterns. The illustrations are colorful and bright and show the children enjoying all of their activities together. VERDICT A feel-good story about sleepovers; good for children before their first sleepover, and a great addition to any primary section of a library.--Sara Collins
