Description
Bub is so excited to perform in Bella's pet choir with his friends Duchess and Luna. But then Bub hurts his leg and he has to wear a BIG BAD CONE! He's crushed that the cone doesn't match his costume.
Can Bub's friends convince him that the show must go on? This funny and charming diary-format early chapter book is perfect for anyone who believes a furry pal is the best kind of friend.
K-Gr 3--Baron Von Bubbles, better known as Bub the Pug, is back--this time with a solo in Bella's Pet Choir. The book follows the familiar format of lined paper with text, large colorful illustrations, and expressive speech bubbles. A fun visual touch is the small emotion bubble near Bub, changing colors and expressions to match his feelings--red for anger, orange for surprise, green for happiness, and more. When Bub falls off the stage and breaks his leg, he's stuck wearing a plastic cone, which ruins his outfit and makes him want to quit. But with some encouragement, he learns that what matters most isn't how he looks--it's being himself. The short, simple text and engaging format make this a great choice for readers transitioning to chapter books. The back matter includes comprehension questions and activity ideas for deeper engagement. VERDICT A lively and creative addition to this entertaining series, sure to delight Bub the Pug fans.

Kirkus Reviews
Praise for Pug Blasts Off (Diary of a Pug #1):
May's cutesy, full-color cartoon art sets the tone for this pug-tastic romp for the new-to-chapter-books crowd. Bub's infectious first-person narration pushes the silly factor off the charts.
Praise for Pug's Snow Day (Diary of a Pug #2):
The full-color cartoon illustrations, especially of Bub, are adorably expressive and certain to please the age group. A strong, accessible diary story for readers seeking an adorable animal tale.
