Description
Cluck, cluck, cheep, cheep! Count from one to ten with Maisy in a farmyard game of hide-and-seek. It's bedtime, but where have all of Mommy Hen's chicks gone? Maisy is quickly on the case to find them, and little readers can help, too--by lifting the flaps to see who's hiding in the stable, by the tractor, or up in the apple tree. Will all ten chicks be safe and accounted for by the last turn of the page?

Kirkus

The counting combined with the flaps, appealing barnyard animals and varied farm locations make this an ideal counting companion to better known stories and songs, such as "Old MacDonald." A book that doesn't take any "cheep" shots at the material.

None

It's the simplest of concept books, but well executed. Large pages, friendly illustrations, old friends (Cyril, Charlie, Eddie, etc.), lots of white space, engaging flaps, cute hiding places, clearly labeled numerals, and a very simple story line--but there is one--all play very nicely together.

School Library Journal

PreS--In this lift-the-flap counting book, Mama Hen needs to find her 10 chicks before bedtime. With Maisy's help, they find all of them, one at a time, around the farm. Each one is hidden behind a flap with a friend. This adds the opportunity to point out the different animals and their sounds. As each chick is found, they join the search and are labeled with brightly colored numerals to help in the counting process. The story is simple, but flaps are always popular with preschoolers, and the colorful, boldly outlined illustrations highlight the numbers. A worthy addition.--Laura Stanfield, Campbell County Public Library, Ft. Thomas, KY
