PreS-Gr 1—We all eat, but how we accomplish this bodily function varies according to our age, environment, culture, and physical abilities. This engaging board book challenges young readers to consider food and its consumption from what may be unfamiliar perspectives. Sharp full-color photographs depict the various ways people consume nourishment and the tools they use to help them do so. The photographs present varied solids and liquids being ingested using bottles, hands, chopsticks, and even gastrointestinal tubes. The minimal text is written simply in an engaging rhyme scheme with about three to five words on each page. From babies being breastfed to youngsters checking the ingredients on a prebaked cookie package, the photographs provide relatable context or new information. Representing diverse families from around the globe, each picture begs to be studied in detail. Readers will want to know what is being eaten and by whom. They may also be intrigued by the wide-ranging consumption methods and how they are compared to what their families eat and how they eat it. Back matter includes age-appropriate discussion questions. VERDICT Having merit for use in family, daycare, and counseling situations, this book's use in libraries may be limited to story-hour sharing.—Lynne Stover
