Pendragon Before the War - Book Two of the Travelers

Grades 5-8. What do furred, catlike Kasha, WWI veteran Gunny Van Dyke, and aquaneer Vo Spader have in common? Each of them, living in different times and in different universes, is a “traveler” who is guarding Halla against the nefarious plans of the demonic Saint Dane. Before they joined the fight to foil Dane’s plans to end humanity, they had lives of their own. Kasha gained compassion for other species after too many deaths in the game of wippen, Gunny solved the murder of his best friend, and Vo learned teamwork while thwarting vicious water pirates. This first book in a prequel series, dubbed The Travelers, provides the backstories for three characters introduced in MacHale’s popular Pendragon series; and fans will undoubtedly look past the flat characters and dialogue to the action and adventure that fills these pages. Each character gets a discrete section that is complete in itself, but potential readers will need to be familiar with the Pendragon background to see the subtle thread binding the stories to each other and to the larger Bobby Pendragon story.
