Daddy, Tell Me a Story
Reading Level: K − 1st Grade

Celebrate the special bond between fathers and daughters with this silly picture book about a bedtime story gone awry.

Bedtime is looming, and Sophie wants to hear a story. So she asks her dad--the best storyteller she knows--to tell her one. He's just started telling a story about a queen and a unicorn when--hold on--this is not the story Sophie had envisioned! She interrupts to request a teeny, tiny change. And then she interrupts again, and again, and again, resulting in an entertaining game of storytelling ping pong as Sophie and Daddy work together to create an unforgettable tale.

This beautifully illustrated book is a sweet tribute to daughters, their daddies, and the time they share together.

School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2--A touching story about a girl and her dad at bedtime. Sophia, with brown skin and pigtails, asks for a story--but she continues to make suggestions and changes as her daddy makes it up. Each page is a retelling of the same story with all of Sophia's changes and additions. The relationship between the girl and her father is sweet, as he patiently changes the story to match her imagination. Smietanka's illustrations for the story being told are colorful and fun, while Sophia and her dad remain in every picture as well. Details in the images add to the excitement and imaginative quality of the story. VERDICT Any child who enjoys a bedtime story will love this imaginative tale spun by Sophia and her dad.--Sara Collins

In order to make her dreams come true, she graduated from the Faculty of Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where she now lives with her husband, two sons, a cat named Zuzia, and some other cats from the neighborhood. In her work, she combines pencils, paints, and Photoshop, happily discovering again and again new digital techniques.
