PreS-Gr 1--A full-on romp in the snow. A brother and sister make an exhaustive list of all the things they want to do on this special and rare snow day. The entire story is told in short sentences as the siblings work their way through the list, all while having a gleeful day. Only once does an adult appear in any of the illustrations; these children are independent and make their own fun without any adult directions. They dress themselves, make their own meal, then head outdoors to play. The rosy-cheeked children have a blast all day, and their adorable faces show the full range of joy they experience having fun in the snow and with each other. They are silly, adventurous, and tired at the end of their day, but also a bit sad that they did not get to do all the things on their list. However, they wake up the next morning to find they have another snow day. While this is a simple story, it is charming as well. VERDICT Perfectly geared for beginning readers; short sentences, repeated short words, and sweet colorful illustrations complete this play day in the snow.--Linda Annable
